The Teide volcano, which is located in the center of Tenerife and dominates the horizon, has a massive physical presence on the island. We decided to hike along the Montaa Blanca for our final expedition, putting ourselves back in its shade. We couldn’t say our goodbyes to Tenerife without mentioning the Teide.
In the Teide National Park, most hiking trails begin with a steep ascent… Today, however, we began our journey by going down a hill and into a lava-strewn environment in the other direction of the Montaa Blanca. This location, known as the Minas de San José, had always caught our interest whenever we passed by, and it was well worth adding extra five kilometers to our climb to see it up close.
